Fine Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "C.W. BRAUN / BUFFALO.N.Y.," circa 1870, ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with turned head, perched on a stylized branch. Excellent detail throughout, including cross-hatched and spotted details to tail, swag and spot details to wing and body, and ringed neck. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Restored handle. Restoration to spout. A large, unrestored spout chip. A 4 3/4" x 4 1/2" area of faint spider lines to left side of jug. A 1 7/8" chip to underside at edge. Some mottling to clay. H 17 1/2".
