Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large flowering plant featuring unusual cross-hatched and fan-shaped blossoms and well-detailed leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: Michael Wissler Collection. Some wear to cobalt. A minor chip to right handle. Jar does not sit perfectly flat. Some discoloration at base on reverse. H 11 3/4".
