Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flying Bird Decoration, Inscribed "Butter," Ft. Edward, NY origin, circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical crock with semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with the slip-trailed inscription, "Butter," above a flying bird holding a leaf in its beak. Large rim chips. A 6 1/4" Y-shaped surface line below one handle, not visible on interior. Water glass staining to interior. A large X-shaped surface line on underside, not visible on interior, forming a 5" vertical line at base on side of crock. H 13".
