Exceptional Stoneware "GR" Jug with Impressed Star Decoration, Westerwald, Germany origin, 18th century, ovoid form with footed base and heavily-tooled collar, featuring a central "GR" medallion surrounded by an impressed drape and intricate incised border. Sides of pitcher decorated with elaborate incised vines bearing impressed flower blossoms with impressed star interiors. Cobalt highlights throughout. Manganese highlight to collar. Incised "3" to reverse. Incised "3" to reverse. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term private collection. Purchased by the consignor in 1984. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 9".
