Unusual Slip-Decorated Stoneware Shoulder Jug, Midwestern origin, late 19th century, approximately half-gallon shoulder jug, decorated with a large brushed block of cobalt to the front and heavy cobalt drips and sponging to the sides and reverse. Shoulder dipped in amber-colored Albany slip overlain with cobalt sponging. Entire surface covered in a clear salt glaze. An in-the-firing, narrow 2 1/2" flake to bottom edge. Otherwise excellent condition. H 8 1/2".
