One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1865, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and heavily-tooled rim molding, decorated across the body with a two-stemmed flowering plant. Swag decoration to collar and flanking the spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A small, serifed one-gallon capacity mark appears on the pitcher's front. A large in-the-firing contact mark, including a surface chip, to right side of pitcher. An additional small in-the-firing contact mark to left side of pitcher's front and a larger in-the-firing contact mark to left side of pitcher. An in-the-firing separation to lower handle terminal. A 1" in-the-firing flake to handle. A small in-the-firing chip to rim on reverse. A tiny-in-the-firing chip to spout. A crack around base of pitcher indicates the pitcher's base may have been reglued.
