Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J.C. WAELDE. / NORTH.BAY," NY State origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled design of a crested bird, executed with sponge, atop a slip-trailed vine. Slip-trailed "2" to right of bird. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Significant restoration to surface, not affecting decoration. Some exfoliation to underside and interior.
