One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "J. BURGER, / ROCHESTER, N.Y.," John Burger, Jr., Rochester, NY, circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a stylized wreath or floral motif below the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "J. BURGER, / ROCHESTER. N.Y." Freehand cobalt "1" to collar and cobalt highlight to lower handle terminal. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small, glazed-over chip to spout.
