Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Leaping Rabbit Decoration, Albany, NY origin, probably R. O'Connell Pottery, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a leaping rabbit atop a stylized ground with four, spotted oval motifs, possibly representing bushes or cabbage plants. Slip-trailed "2" to shoulder. Outstanding decoration and exceptionally vivid color. Excellent condition with two small rim chips, a small chip to right handle, a minor in-the-firing ping to left handle, and some water glass staining to interior.
