Ten-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "WILLIAMS & REPPERT. / GREENSBORO. PA.," circa 1885, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring a stenciled design of a Federal eagle's bust surrounded by Williams & Reppert maker's stenciling and stylized floral stenciling. Shoulder decorated with freehand stripes and vining. Base with freehand "10" flanked by flourishes and underscored by a stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Surface wear. A very large spider crack on reverse. A large Y-shaped crack to left of eagle on front. A small chip to each handle. A 4" x 1/2" in-the-firing flake to underside. A few other relatively minor in-the-firing chips to underside at edge. H 21".
