Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Presentation Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Inscribed "TiLLy," James or William "Leet" Hamilton, Greensboro, PA, circa 1860, semi-ovoid jar with incised banding to midsection, tooled shoulder, and squared rim, decorated with the brushed cobalt name, "TiLLy," above a freehand stripe and undulating vine bearing three tulips and graduated leaves. The decoration, form, and color of this jar lead to a firm attribution to brothers, James or William "Leet" Hamilton, while active in Greensboro, Pennsylvania. Exceptional size, strong decoration, and rare inscription of the owner's name. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which recently surfaced in Western Pennsylvania. Excellent condition with a 1/2" U-shaped surface line to rim on reverse. H 6 7/8".
