Fine and Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled J.P. PARKER / JANE LEW / WVA.," circa 1870, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled circular design depicting hearts and stars, flanked by two crosses surrounded by stars. J.P. Parker maker's stenciling below, underscored by a rare stenciled design of a footed mug. Three incised slash marks, indicating three gallons, under left handle. The finest Jane Lew, West Virginia churn that we have ever offered. Heavy chipping to rim. Minor nicks to molding at base of collar.
