Half-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1790, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open strap handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif with splayed leaves. Exceptional size and early-style form with strong decoration. A raised, cracked section to underside. This area does not appear to be broken out and reglued. Shallow chipping around base, much of which is glazed over. Small rim chips. A 3/4" hairline to rim. H 7 3/4".
