Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Foliate Decoration, attributed to John Remmey, III, Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, highly-ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate design in the classic Manhattan style. Heavy cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent condition with a few minor base nicks, a 1 1/8" U-shaped line to foot, and some mottling to surface. H 10".
