Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt House Decoration, Stamped "A.O. WHITTEMORE. / HAVANA, N.Y.," circa 1865, semi-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a house with two chimneys, five windows, and a door, atop a stylized ground. A good example of this classic Whittemore design. (What was then known as Havana, New York, near the southern end of Seneca Lake, is known today as Montour Falls.) Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
