Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Catching Butterfly Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN, OTTMAN & CO. / FORT EDWARD N.Y.," circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird grasping at a butterfly with spotted wings. Slip-trailed "2" above. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A few surface flakes near base on reverse. A 3/4" glazed-over surface flake to front. Some staining. Some minor in-the-firing surface lines to upper handle terminal. A small in-the-firing iron ping near base on side of jug and a minor salt drip to shoulder.
