Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "FORT EDWARD / POTTERY CO.," George Satterlee, Fort Edward, NY, circa 1859, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a ring-necked bird with peacock's tail, perched on a stylized branch. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark. In-the-firing surface chip to tail. A 2" in-the-firing contact mark near base on reverse. A shallow flake to top of spout. Some crazing to spout and base on reverse. A salt drip to right side of jug. Some staining.
