Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Brown Slip Decoration, Stenciled "RAGER LLOYD & CO. / Palatine. WV," circa 1875, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim, featuring Rager Lloyd & Co. maker's stenciling surrounding a stenciled foliate motif. Shoulder decorated with brushed swag. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Decoration is applied in highly unusual brown slip with a greenish cast, possibly Albany slip or manganese. This jar is the first piece of salt-glazed stoneware from Palatine that we have offered featuring decoration applied in a slip other than cobalt. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
