Exceptional Glazed Redware Jug, Bristol County, MA origin, late 18th or early 19th century, delicately-potted, highly-ovoid jug with footed base and ribbed strap handle, the surface decorated with splashed manganese under a lead-based glaze. Outstanding condition and superb color, displaying mottled hues of green, yellow, orange, and red throughout. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a recently-surfaced New England collection assembled decades ago. Old pen inscription on underside reads ('GREAT SHAPE + GLAZE' ...) 1820's PROBABLY CONN. OR MASS. / 'WHISKEY' OR CIDER JUG." Excellent condition with minor wear to spout and surface. H 6 1/2".
