Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Stamped "P. HERRMANN", Baltimore, MD, circa 1875, both of cylindrical form, a one-gallon jar with two-stemmed clover plant motif on the front and reverse and a two-gallon jar with swag motif at shoulder. Each impressed with Peter Herrmann maker's marks at shoulder. Provenance: Descended in the family of Baltimore, MD potter, Peter Herrmann. One-gallon jar with in-the-firing crazing throughout. Two-gallon jar with rim chips, an in-the-firing contact mark to rim, a small in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder, and a small in-the-firing separation to bottom.
