Two One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Stamped "P. HERRMANN", Baltimore, MD, circa 1875, both of cylindrical form with tooled shoulder and squared rim, each decorated with clover designs extending around the shoulder. Each impressed on the shoulder with Peter Herrmann one-gallon maker's marks. Provenance: Descended in the family of Baltimore, MD potter, Peter Herrmann. Darker example with a 5/8" lime ping near base and some wear to interior of rim. Lighter example with two large chips to exterior of rim, a small nick to interior of rim, a tiny nick to shoulder molding, a faint, approximately 3 3/4" line from rim, and some staining/residue from use to surface.
