Fine Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA", Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flared rim, decorated around the midsection with a brushed swag and hanging floral motif. Shoulder decorated with a brushed drape design. This jar may have been decorated by James Shinnick, a potter who produced similarly-decorated ware while working in Strasburg and Mt. Crawford, VA. Desirable size. Hairlines to surface and underside. Rim chips. A small base chip. H 7 3/8".
