Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Clover Decoration, Stamped "P. HERRMANN", Baltimore, MD, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a two-stemmed clover plant design. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with Peter Herrmann five-gallon maker's mark to shoulder. Provenance: Descended in the family of Baltimore, MD potter, Peter Herrmann. Some water glass staining to surface. One handle with a small chip and minor nick. Other handle with a 1 1/8" chip.
