Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock with Wheeling, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the stenciled advertising, "H.F. BEHRENS. / GROCER, / 2217 & 2219 / MARKET STREET / WHEELING. W . VA. / SOUTH BRANCH 3601 / JACOB ST." Freehand straight and wavy stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Stenciled "3" with flourishes at base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 1 1/4" glazed-over ping to side of jar. A shallow glazed-over chip to one handle and some minor wear to same handle. Two in-the-firing surface chips near base on reverse.
