Very Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Thistle Decoration, Stenciled "Greensboro.", Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a thistle below the town name, "Greensboro". Freehand stripe decoration below rim. The thistle is among the rarest and most prized stenciled motifs in Greensboro stoneware. This jar, potted in an exceptional small size, features crisp stenciling to this design. Shallow chipping to shoulder molding. Wear to top of rim. Minor wear to inner wax sealer rim. H 6 7/8".
