Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WM-E. WARNER. / WEST-TROY", NY State origin, circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with an intricately-detailed, slip-trailed design of a bird holding a worm or twig in its beak, perched atop a sinuous vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent condition with a 2 1/2" horizontal crack at base on reverse. A 3" Y-shaped line on underside, extending 2" up base. A rim chip on reverse. Some very minor surface wear.
