Fine Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA origin, circa 1975, rotund, squat-shaped jug with applied clay facial features, including kaolin eyes with black-glazed pupils, curved eyebrows, pierced ears, a well-formed nose with nostrils, and unusual closed mouth. Surface covered in a dark-olive alkaline glaze with "tobacco spit" striping throughout. Underside incised with Lanier Meaders signature. Exceptional, bold form with appealing glaze. Provenance: A recently-surfaced example. A shallow chip to reverse of one ear. Otherwise as-made condition. H 9".
