Fine Early-Period Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed "Lanier Meaders", Cleveland, GA origin, circa 1965, ovoid jug with applied and sculpted face including alkaline-glazed kaolin eyes with black pupils, a pronounced nose with nostrils, large ears, and a wavy mouth with rock buck teeth. Incised "Lanier Meaders" on underside. A good example of one of Meaders earlier styles, evidenced by its form, glazed eyes, and rock teeth. Provenance: A recently-surfaced examples, purchased by the consignor years ago. Excellent, essentially as-made condition, with small nick to left ear. H 8 1/2".
