Fine and Early Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Edgefield District, SC origin, circa 1830, ovoid jug with narrow base, heavily-ridged shoulder, and delicately-formed, narrow spout, covered in a light-olive alkaline glaze, including heavy runs to midsection. An artistically-potted, early example of Edgefield stoneware. Excellent condition with a shallow 1" flake to underside at edge, some minor base wear, and a small in-the-firing ping to shoulder area.
