Rare and Fine Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Scalloped Handles, attributed to the Morgan and van Wickle Pottery, Old Bridge, NJ, circa 1805-1815, ovoid jar with narrow, footed base, tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and ornamental tab handles with pinched scalloping along edges; decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed drape or "fish scale" design, accented with a spot on the interior of each drape. A 1 1/8" base chip and two minor chips to bottom edge. Shallow chipping to one handle. A small chip to opposite handle. A 1 1/2" in-the-firing surface chip. A short line at base.
