Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Drape Decoration, attributed to Captain James Morgan, Cheesequake, NJ, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a graduated drape design. Further decorated with an additional drape design underneath each handle. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Very nice condition. Two shallow base flakes. A few rim chips. A 1 1/2" hairline from rim. Some typical small in-the-firing flaws to surface.
