Exceptional Glazed Stoneware Hunt Scene Pitcher, Stamped "AMERICAN POTTERY Co. / JERSEY CITY, N.J.", circa 1845, molded, hound-handled pitcher with hunt scene depicting hounds taking down a boar and a stag, the shoulder with relief oak branch motif. Delicate openwork tail to hound. Exterior surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze including darker accents to the hound's head and rim of the pitcher. Underside impressed with American Pottery Company maker's mark. Outstanding size and condition. Provenance: Ex-George S. McKearin Collection of American Pottery / No. 1019. Includes McKearin sticker on underside. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a shallow in-the-firing contact mark to left side of pitcher. H 12 7/8".
