Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "WARNE & LETTs 1806 / S. AMBOY. N. JERSY," 1806, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, further embellished with coggled banding below, the front featuring the large impressed maker's mark of Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, above an impressed holly leaf or drape design, accented with brown slip. Additional brushed leaf-like flourishes flank the impressed design on the front. Additional brown slip highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Found decades ago in the northeastern U.S. Thin 1 1/2" crack on underside, extending 7" up front of jug, which is difficult to see. Various imperfections to surface, the largest flaw being a 2" in-the-firing iron ping to side of jug. Small base chips.
