Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware with Profuse Freehand Cobalt Decoration and Pittsburgh, PA Advertising, circa 1865, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the stenciled advertising, "From / R. PEET. / 21. diamond. / pittsburgh", flanked by graduated cobalt dashes. Lavishly-decorated above with freehand stripes, vining, and unusual pointed and rounded tulip motifs. Base with additional freehand vining and a freehand "6", underscored by a stripe. Restoration throughout. An in-the-firing contact mark to front. H 16 1/2".
