Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant-and-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a pheasant with turned head, perched on a tree stump. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Chipping to bottom edge. A narrow, in-the-firing dent near base on front. A faint line to shoulder on front. A tiny nick to interior of spout.
