Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-in-Wreath Decoration, Stamped "J.S. TAFT & CO., / KEENE, N.H.", circa 1875, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized branch, surrounded by an elaborate wreath accented with spots. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A shallow 1 1/4" x 7/8" flake to right side of spout. Two small spout chips and a small spout flake. A 2 1/8" in-the-firing surface line to base.
