Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Bird Decoration, New England origin, circa 1870, ovoid pitcher with tooling to midsection and rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with ring-necked and spotted body, perched on a stylized foliate design. Impressed and cobalt-highlighted two-gallon capacity mark is surrounded by a brushed tulip. Excellent condition with a shallow 3/4" chip to rim near reverse side, possibly in-the-firing.
