Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Double Pheasant Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of two pheasants with turned heads, perched on a stump with stylized ground below. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Large spout chips. A thin 3" diagonal crack from spout. A minor chip to underside at edge. Some light staining to surface.
