Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT.", circa 1870, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a leaf, accented with dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A salt drip below the bird's tail. Two lines at base, measuring 2 1/4" and 1 1/4". A very minor, 3/4" spider line emanating from a tiny ping near base. A 1" chip to top edge of spout on reverse. A few short, faint surface lines in spout. A tiny base chip, likely in-the-firing.
