Three-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Iron-Oxide Decoration, Stamped "BOSTON.", Frederick Carpenter, Boston, MA, circa 1793-1797, highly-ovoid jar with footed, applied loop handles, and tooled accents to the rim and shoulder. Surface dipped in iron-oxide slip from the rim to the shoulder as well as around the base. Excellent form with appealing finger impressions visible at the iron-dipped base. Very nice condition with various in-the-firing flaws, including a 3/4" surface chip on reverse and iron pings. Shallow chipping to base, some of which is glazed over. A drip of black paint to reverse.
