Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA.", PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed swag and hanging flower design. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a wavy cobalt stripe connecting the handle terminals. Impressed under one handle with Richard C. Remmey maker's mark. Lid with brushed swag decoration. 1 3/4" loss to one handle. Two short lines from rim. A salt drip to base. Two salt drips to underside. Two rim chips and an in-the-firing contact mark to rim. Lid, possibly original to the crock, with large chips and two hairlines.
