Eight-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Southeastern PA origin, circa 1860, large-sized, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed swag and hanging flower motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and swagged brushwork connecting the handle terminals. Areas underneath each handle further decorated with an oversized flower with swag-decorated interior. Exceptional size. A chip to each end of one handle. Three large in-the-firing separation cracks on interior, not visible on exterior. Faint lines to underside. H 18 3/4".
