Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoon, Stamped "WM. MOYER / HARRISBURG. PA", circa 1858-1861, cylindrical form with flared, footed base, recessed top with central hole, and carved oval opening at shoulder, decorated on two sides with a leafy stem bearing a hanging tulip blossom. Impressed below rim with the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark of William Moyer. A scarce form in Harrisburg stoneware production, particularly rare for this short-lived operation. One side with surface wear to shoulder and flakes to decoration. Very light exfoliation to recessed top. A nick and minor chip to original hole in top center. A very faint Y-shaped line to recessed top. Some minor flakes and chips to foot. H 5" ; Diameter 9 5/8".
