One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Game Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA", NY State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles pierced with original holes to allow for a wire bail handle. Front decorated with a bright cobalt-slip design of a game bird with crest, striped body, and spotted wing. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A desirable White family design, exhibiting excellent color. A 5" vertical line on reverse, not visible on interior. A minor, glazed-over base chip on reverse. An in-the-firing surface separation to underside, not visible on interior.
