Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Rooster Scene, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, cylindrical crock with semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a rooster atop a stylized ground with shrubs, including a pine tree to the bird's right. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A very faint 5 3/4" Y-shaped line to reverse, part of which is visible on the interior. Some light staining. Rim chips. Two chips to left handle. Minor wear to ends of right handle. Some light base wear.
