Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Deer Decoration, Stamped "J.C. WAELDE. / NORTH BAY", NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jug with rounded spout, decorated with a stenciled design of a standing deer with large rack, applied with a sponge. Ground below the deer is created from a sponged stripe underscored by a series of slip-trailed spots. Decorated above with a slip-trailed "2" underscored by a series of dashes. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Desirable and highly-distinctive NY State design. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
