Very Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Stenciled Cobalt Cow Decoration, Stamped "J.C. WAELDE / NORTH BAY," New York State origin, circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with heavily-sponged, stenciled design of a cow standing atop a sponged ground. Slip-trailed wavy line and spot decoration flanking the cow. Slip-trailed "3" above. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Excellent figural design with a visually-appealing use of different decorative techniques.
