Four-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "N. CLARK & CO / LYONS". NY State origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a large flower with curved stem. Brushed cobalt "4" to shoulder. Includes fitting salt-glazed stoneware lid, probably original to the jar. Some light exfoliation to top of lid. A glazed-over 1 1/4" rim chip on reverse. Some shallow in-the-firing chipping to base. An additional small base chip.
