Fine Early Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed "Lanier Meaders", Cleveland, GA, circa 1970, ovoid jug with hand-modeled face, including deeply-depressed front and sides, closed mouth with pouty lips, crimped ears, and balled kaolin eyes with dark pupils. Surface covered in an olive-green alkaline glaze. Underside incised with Lanier Meaders maker's mark. Among the finer Meaders face jugs that we have offered, produced relatively early, and featuring a highly expressive face with dramatic manipulation of the body of the jug. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 8 1/2".
