Two-Gallon Maysville, KY Stoneware Advertising Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, the midsection featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "G.A. & J.E. McCARTHEY / MAYSVILLE, KY.", surrounded by horizontal wavy stripes ending in vertical stripes, in an unusual box-like border. Shoulder decorated with freehand vining and stripes. Base with freehand script "2", flanked by dashes, between wavy stripes. Base broken into sections, reglued, and restored along crack lines. This restoration includes a long, restored diagonal Y-shaped crack extending from base to midsection on front, with some touch-up to cobalt along crack.
